Bovine colostrum is a proof category for Sun Nutraceuticals.

Colostrum is the first milk produced by dairy cows in the 24 to 48 hours after calving. It is concentrated with immunoglobulins — primarily IgG — along with lactoferrin, growth factors including IGF-1 and TGF-β, and proline-rich polypeptides. For supplement brands, it is one of the few ingredients with both a credible biological mechanism and a clearly defined quality marker: IgG percentage, verified by third-party laboratory analysis on every production batch.

Sun Nutraceuticals produces bovine colostrum as an existing production category — not a new capability we are pitching speculatively. We fill colostrum in two-piece capsules (gelatin and HPMC/pullulan) and pack spray-dried colostrum powder into stand-up pouches. Clients launching or scaling colostrum SKUs get a manufacturing partner with documented production history in this ingredient, not a co-packer who is seeing it for the first time.

The category is growing. The carnivore and ancestral health movements have brought bovine colostrum from a niche clinical supplement into mainstream wellness. Brands building immune-support, gut-health, and athletic-recovery stacks are adding colostrum as either a standalone SKU or as a functional anchor in a multi-ingredient formula. Demand for private-label colostrum from quality-audited manufacturers is increasing faster than finished-goods supply. The brands positioned in this category now are the ones that will be difficult to displace in two years.

What we manufacture

Our colostrum production capability covers three primary product types. Each is manufactured with the same IgG-standardized bovine colostrum ingredient base, produced under cGMP documentation, and third-party tested before it leaves the facility.

Bovine colostrum powder

Spray-dried bovine colostrum in stand-up pouches for scoopable supplement products. Standard IgG minimum 25%. Unflavored and lightly flavored options. Fill weights from 150 g to 500 g per pouch. Suitable for brands positioned in the functional food or athletic-recovery segment.

Bovine colostrum capsules

Powder-fill two-piece capsules in size 00 and size 0, available in gelatin or HPMC (plant-derived) shells. Standard dose configurations: 500 mg and 1,000 mg per capsule. Unit-dose format for brands preferring capsule SKUs or selling through channels where powder is impractical.

Custom colostrum blends

Colostrum combined with complementary actives: lactoferrin for added antimicrobial and iron-binding activity, digestive enzymes for gut-health positioning, immune botanicals including elderberry or echinacea extract, or amino acid complexes for recovery stacks. Custom blends available in both powder and capsule formats.

How a colostrum program works at Sun

  1. Discovery call. We discuss your product concept, target dose, label claim direction (immune support, gut health, athletic recovery, or a combination), format preference, MOQ, and timeline. We provide a detailed quote within one business day.
  2. Formula specification. For pure colostrum products, the primary variables are IgG percentage, capsule shell material, and capsule size. For custom blends, we develop a full formula spec with dose rationale for each active ingredient included. You receive a draft specification sheet before any ingredient is ordered.
  3. Component procurement. We source the colostrum ingredient from qualified suppliers with full traceability documentation. Capsule shells, stand-up pouches, and packaging components are procured in parallel to compress lead time.
  4. Production. Blending, encapsulation or powder filling, and final packaging run on our in-house lines under documented batch records. Capsule weight-uniformity checks and visual inspection are conducted in-line throughout the run.
  5. Third-party testing. Every colostrum batch goes to an independent laboratory for IgG identity and potency verification, microbial safety screening, and heavy-metals testing. We do not release finished goods before COA results are in hand.
  6. Shipment. Finished goods ship to your warehouse or, if you're using Sun's integrated fulfillment service, directly to customers and retailers from our Fort Lauderdale facility.

Compliance and testing

Every colostrum supplement produced at Sun is manufactured in a cGMP-compliant, FDA-registered facility under written batch records per 21 CFR Part 111. Third-party laboratory testing is not optional and is not an upcharge — it is the standard production protocol. For colostrum specifically, the most commercially meaningful test is IgG identity and potency: verifying that the finished product contains the IgG percentage stated on the label, not just the IgG percentage in the raw ingredient specification sheet.

We provide a Certificate of Analysis documenting IgG percentage, microbial safety panel results, and heavy-metals results with every production batch. This documentation is the evidence your quality and regulatory team needs to substantiate label claims and respond to retailer or marketplace audits. Brands selling through Whole Foods, Thrive Market, or Amazon are increasingly required to produce this documentation on demand — we make sure it exists before the goods leave our facility.

Who we manufacture for

Colostrum runs at Sun serve brands across a range of stages and channels. The common thread is that buyers want verifiable IgG content, documented production under cGMP, and a manufacturer who has actually produced colostrum before.

  • Immune-support brands adding colostrum as a core SKU or as a functional anchor in a multi-ingredient immune stack
  • Athletic recovery and sports nutrition brands building recovery programs around colostrum's growth-factor content
  • Gut-health brands incorporating colostrum for intestinal-barrier support positioning
  • Carnivore and ancestral health brands building product lines around animal-sourced whole-food ingredients
  • Emerging founders launching their first colostrum SKU and needing a manufacturer with existing ingredient relationships and documented production history
  • Established operators adding colostrum to an existing supplement portfolio on a scheduled production cadence

Why Sun for colostrum manufacturing

Three things matter most when choosing a colostrum manufacturer: existing ingredient capability, IgG testing discipline, and format flexibility. Sun delivers on all three.

Existing production history. We produce bovine colostrum as part of our current operations — it is not a new line extension we are pitching without a track record. Existing clients have manufactured colostrum products through Sun, and the production documentation to support that history is in our batch records. When you bring a colostrum project to Sun, you are working with a facility that has seen the ingredient, processed it, and shipped finished goods.

IgG testing is non-negotiable. The colostrum supplement market has a quality problem: products claiming 25% or 30% IgG content frequently fail third-party verification. We run IgG potency testing through an independent laboratory on every batch, and we do not release goods until results confirm the claimed percentage. Your COA reflects what the product actually contains, not what the raw ingredient specification sheet says it should contain.

Both powder and capsule in one facility. Brands building a colostrum line sometimes want to launch in one format and expand to another as volume grows. Powder may be the right entry point for a DTC brand; capsules may be better for a retail SKU. Sun manufactures both at the same facility under the same quality system, which simplifies vendor management, maintains ingredient consistency, and allows format expansion without sourcing a second manufacturing partner.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order quantity for a colostrum supplement run?

MOQs are project-specific based on format and packaging. Capsule runs typically start at 5,000–10,000 units. Powder in stand-up pouches can start lower depending on fill weight and packaging complexity. Reach out with your project details and we'll quote a specific MOQ within one business day.

Do you manufacture both bovine colostrum powder and capsules?

Yes. Sun Nutraceuticals produces bovine colostrum in both formats: spray-dried powder for scoopable products and stand-up pouches, and powder-fill two-piece capsules for unit-dose supplement products. Both formats use the same IgG-standardized colostrum ingredient base.

What IgG percentage do you standardize to?

Our standard bovine colostrum ingredient meets a 25% IgG minimum. A 30% IgG minimum is available for premium-tier formulations. Certificate of Analysis documentation on IgG identity and potency is provided with every production batch.

How long does colostrum manufacturing take from formula approval?

Typical lead time is 6 to 10 weeks from final formula approval and component arrival to finished goods. Timelines vary based on ingredient sourcing and packaging lead times. Rush options are available for established clients.

Is your colostrum bovine-sourced?

Yes. The colostrum we manufacture with is bovine-derived — specifically, first-milking bovine colostrum from dairy cows, spray-dried into a free-flowing powder. We do not currently offer non-bovine colostrum sources such as caprine or equine.

Do you handle third-party testing for IgG potency?

Yes. Third-party laboratory testing is built into our standard production protocol. For colostrum specifically, this includes IgG identity and potency verification, microbial safety panels, and heavy-metals screening. Certificates of Analysis are provided with every batch.

Can you develop a custom colostrum formulation or blend?

Yes. We can blend colostrum with complementary ingredients including lactoferrin, digestive enzymes, immune-supporting botanicals, or other proteins. Our formulators will work from your brief to develop a custom blend that fits your label claim direction and price point.

Do you offer HPMC (vegan-capsule) options for colostrum?

Yes. We offer two-piece HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) capsules, which are plant-derived and suitable for vegetarian products. Gelatin capsules are also available. Note that colostrum itself is an animal-derived ingredient regardless of capsule shell selection.
